Information, Resources and Updates for KidCheck Users

Hi,

Has any testing been done to see if there is a performance increase by using one browser over another? We're currently using Internet Explorer (I believe we're using version 8), but are considering switching to Mozilla FireFox if it will process the pages faster. Thoughts?

I don't have any page processing performance information, but I can tell you that IE has 2 advantages on a Windows platform.

First, you can use ActiveX to print which is faster than Java (ActiveX prints through IE vs Java has to load itself, load the print utility & initialize it before it can spool the print job)

Secondly, you can use the KidCheck Check-in station installer to run KidCheck in IE full screen without a start menu or address bar and can't be changed without closing the window. This provides some additional security & helps discourage folks from surfing the web from your check-in stations.

That said we are all huge Chrome fans around here, but unfortunately Chrome has a few annoying issues with Java (like no Java support at all in Mac) that need to be addressed by Google before it becomes a really great platform for running check-in on. But for every day work stuff, it's fantastic.
If I want to print using the ActiveX instead of Java to speed up the process, how do I do that?
1) Login to go.kidcheck.com with your administrator account
2) Click "settings"
3) Click the "check-in stations settings" tab.
4) Under "Default Label Printer Setup", select "Active X" as the default printing engine.
5) Back up at the top, click "save changes"
We also have a help FAQ that walks you through it.
