Information, Resources and Updates for KidCheck Users

Hello!

I'm playing around with the idea of using Android and a scanner app for that platform to potentially use for check-ins and check-outs using the keytags you can assign to parents (not sure if there are any apps that would even work). I wanted to suggest formal support for something like this (iPhone to for that matter) as it would be an affordable alternative to buying an actual scanner if it could work!

Thanks!

this is an excellent idea........
I'm not sure this would work. A scanner is just an input device, no different than a keyboard. Whereas a smartphone isn't meant to be an input device. It has input functions but they are designed for input into the actual phone, not to a secondary device. So when I plug in my Droid X into my computer I can really only transfer files that are on my phone. I can't start typing on my phone and have the text show up on my computer, at least not any way that I know of.
If you search "Bluetooth Barcode Scanner" on the Android market, an app comes up called "Bluetooth Barcode Scanner" ;) and it seems to do what a scanner is meant to do via bluetooth to the computer. I don't fully understand the technology, but I don't see why that couldn't be expanded on to support something like this. It would be a compelling selling point for KidCheck to offer a service that with the popularity and number of Android and iPhone devices in use, could bring down the cost entry point significantly for those small business and ministries wanting to use this part of KidCheck!

Bluetooth Barcode Scanner can also be checked out online: http://www.usefulapps.net/
I hadn't seen that before. Have you tried it at all?
